The Cronos chain experienced an unexpected event on August 30, 2026, when a hacker exploited the Tectonic lending protocol, causing a price surge that led to a network halt.

The attacker borrowed $120.4 million across nine lending markets and transferred it out of the chain before the halt.

Cronos team decided to roll back 10,961 blocks, effectively erasing an hour and 54 minutes of transaction history from August 30 between 12:38 UTC and 14:33 UTC.

This rollback means that any transactions made during this time frame have been reversed, restoring the balance as it was before the window. However, there are exceptions where users may still experience losses, such as if they received a payment or bridged value to another chain during this period.
