Cronos Halted After $75M Exploit Hits Tectonic Lending Protocol
Cronos Network has halted block production after an attacker exploited Tectonic, its largest lending protocol, causing preliminary losses of around $75 million. The attacker manipulated Tectonic's governance token TONIC, inflating its price by about 100-fold in just 20 minutes.
This drastic increase in price allowed the attacker to borrow large sums and withdraw unauthorized funds from the platform. Most of the stolen assets remain trapped on the halted Cronos blockchain, limiting further damage while investigations continue.
The final financial impact and recovery plans are still uncertain, with Tectonic advising users not to interact with the protocol until further notice.
