Cronos Network Halted After $75 Million Tectonic Exploit
The Cronos network, linked to Crypto.com, halted operations on Sunday after an exploit affected Tectonic, its largest lending protocol. The estimated loss is $75 million, according to onchain researcher Weilin Li.
Tectonic's pre-incident total value locked was approximately $121.7 million, with about $82.7 million in active loans, per DefiLlama data. The attacker manipulated TONIC, Tectonic's governance token, to 100x its price inside of 20 minutes.
The attack mechanism is reminiscent of the infamous 2022 oracle-manipulation exploit of Mango Markets. Li identified another attacker-controlled address containing roughly $8 million, bringing the estimate's total to approximately $75 million.
