Cronos Network Halts Blockchain Over Tectonic Exploit, Resumes Operations
Cronos Network halted its blockchain operations on August 31 to prevent further damage from an ongoing exploit on lending protocol Tectonic. The attack saw around $74 million drained, with the attacker managing to bridge only about $6 million to Ethereum before the chain was paused.
The Cronos team restored the chain's state to the point before the attack and resumed normal block production once the fix was in place. Node operators can now restart their systems on Cronos v1.7.8 using the latest mainnet snapshot, released at 09:52 UTC on August 31.
The network remains under close observation while stability is confirmed, with some protocols, RPC providers, block explorers and bridges taking longer to come back online as they complete their own checks.
