Cronos Rolls Back Blockchain to Recover $111M in Lost Crypto
Cronos has executed a blockchain rollback to recover a significant amount of cryptocurrency worth $111 million. The move is seen as controversial, but some argue it's necessary to prevent further losses.
The Cronos blockchain is a Layer-1 blockchain that supports various decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts. According to LCX Exchange, the rollback was executed to recover crypto assets that were lost due to a bug in the Cronos blockchain.
Liechtenstein-based exchange LCX AG stated that it has applied for authorization as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA (EU 2023/1114), but is not currently authorized. LCX does not offer crypto-asset services to persons in the EEA pending authorisation, and existing EEA clients are limited to withdrawals during the wind-down.
The rollback has sparked debate among cryptocurrency enthusiasts and experts, with some questioning the decision's legitimacy and potential consequences for the ecosystem.
