Cronos Unrecovered: $9.19 Million Remains Missing After Tectonic Exploit
Cronos, a blockchain network, has confirmed that approximately $9.19 million remains unrecovered following an exploit involving the Tectonic lending protocol.
The incident occurred on August 30 when an attacker manipulated Tectonic's collateral system and used the inflated value of TONIC, the protocol's governance token, to borrow about $120.4 million across nine markets.
Cronos validators halted the network and later rolled back the blockchain to a point before the exploit, reversing most of the unauthorized borrowing and restoring affected balances. However, funds that had already moved through bridges, exchanges or other networks could not be recovered.
