Crypto Adoption Remains Low in Eurozone Despite Growing Digital Payments
A recent survey conducted by the European Central Bank (ECB) of 8,205 companies in the eurozone found that cryptocurrency adoption remains extremely low. Only 0.2% of online businesses and 1% of physical stores accept cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.
Cash and bank cards continue to dominate the market, with 92% of physical stores accepting cash and 88% accepting bank cards. Mobile payments are on the rise, increasing from 36% in 2024 to 68% in 2026.
The ECB has emphasized its intention to preserve access to cash despite the growing use of digital and mobile payments.
