Crypto AI Visibility Tracking: The Numbers Don't Add Up
A crypto AI visibility tracker measures how often an answer engine mentions an exchange, wallet, or protocol when someone asks about buying it. But what does this number mean? The same prompt run twice can return a different answer, and personalization by account history, geography, and logged-in state shape what an individual sees.
CiteOS, one of the few trackers with published methodology, collects 20 buyer-style prompts across 5 engines, making 100 observation points per brand. This is enough to average out sampling noise. The data shows that 92.22% of citations point to pages the brand does not control, while its own domain accounts for only 7.78%. Mid-tier crypto press and aggregators like CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap have a greater impact.
Top-tier crypto press outlets like CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, The Block, and Decrypt are paid by teams to be visible but return only 143 citations across the entire corpus, which is 0.36%. A basket of mid-tier outlets returned 907 citations, cited 6.34 times more often at a fraction of the placement cost.
The key takeaway is that visibility tracking numbers can vary greatly due to sampling noise and personalization. It's essential to understand what these numbers mean and how they are calculated before making conclusions about an exchange or brand's visibility in AI-powered search results.
