Crypto Apps Sell Tokenized Stocks Without Actual Ownership
Tokenized stocks on crypto apps are not what they seem.
The product is designed to mimic buying shares in well-known companies, but investors do not actually own a stake in those companies. In fact, according to Crypto.com's announcement, tokenized stocks confer 'no legal or beneficial ownership' of the underlying assets.
This means that users cannot vote at annual general meetings, claim profits or dividends, or have subscription rights. They are essentially buying contracts on the price of shares.
The largest crypto asset provider, Crypto.com, launched its Tokenized Stocks product in the European Economic Area (EEA) on August 12, 2026. The product covers 1,500 US stocks and funds, including NVDA, TSLA, AAPL, GLD, and SLV.
Other large trading venues have also introduced similar products, with Binance's bStocks launched in June 2026.
