Crypto at Crossroads: Sachdeva Sees Similar Adoption Arc as Mutual Funds in India
Veteran investor Vikaas M. Sachdeva is making the case for digital assets, comparing their current state to mutual funds in India in the mid-1990s.
Sachdeva, CEO of BitDelta India, a crypto exchange, notes that compliance guardrails exist but education and market structure are still catching up.
Crypto's adoption is similar to mutual funds' journey from low awareness to widespread participation after education improved. Today, nearly 40% of India's crypto users come from Tier II and III towns, not just the financial capitals of Mumbai or Delhi.
Sachdeva believes institutional adoption and geographic reach beyond metros will bring more Indian investors into crypto. He invests in a daily crypto SIP (systematic investment plan) and advises newcomers to start small and let their allocation grow as they understand the market better.
In an interview with ET Wealth, Sachdeva predicted that $200,000 Bitcoin is a 'realistic target' and called the IT sector boom in the early 2000s his most proud market call. He also emphasized the importance of education, pointing out that awareness of virtual digital assets in India is still below 15%.
