Crypto Awareness Up Among Canadians, Misunderstanding Persists

Share

A recent survey conducted by Ipsos for the Ontario Securities Commission found that Canadian investors are becoming more aware of cryptocurrencies, but still have limited understanding of how they work.

The third wave of the study polled Canadians with investments in late 2025 and early 2026. It found that 25% of respondents hold crypto compared to only 10% in 2023, yet only 59% knew what a crypto asset is - up slightly from 54% in 2023.

One-third of those surveyed said they regretted purchasing crypto, which suggests they wound up losing money. This may indicate that Canadians are being targeted by crypto-related scams, especially considering the growing number of people caught in such situations.
