Crypto-Backed Candidates Win Big in Midterm Primaries
Crypto-backed candidates have secured victories in U.S. House primaries in Michigan and Washington, marking a milestone for the cryptocurrency industry's growing political footprint.
In Michigan's 4th Congressional District, incumbent Republican Bill Huizenga won his primary on August 4, fending off challengers to advance to the general election.
Huizenga has received campaign support from prominent crypto investors, including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Winklevoss Capital, and Coinbase. His victory sets up a November contest against Democratic state Senator Shawn McCann, a race that could see significant outside spending from crypto political action committees.
In Washington state, several Democratic incumbents with crypto industry backing also advanced. Representatives Suzan DelBene, Kim Schrier, and Marilyn Strickland each won their primaries, while Republican Amanda McKinney also secured a spot on the November ballot.
