Crypto Betting Finds Its Footing Among Football Fans

Share

The 2026 World Cup marked a significant milestone for cryptocurrency betting, generating $20 billion in prediction market volume and $24 million in digital collectible trades.

According to Chainalysis, over 400,000 wallets participated in blockchain-based betting throughout the tournament, indicating that football fans are becoming increasingly comfortable using blockchain infrastructure to express their views on matches.

Prediction markets were particularly well-suited for this format, given the expanded 48-team and 104-match schedule. However, it was not just the volume of bets that mattered, rather, the behavioral shift among fans.

With blockchain-based betting platforms, users can fund their accounts with cryptocurrencies or stablecoins, eliminating the need to deposit euros or pounds with traditional bookmakers.
