Crypto Billionaire Delo Donates £36 Million to Farage's Reform UK
Crypto billionaire Ben Delo has donated £36 million (C$67,486,104) to Nigel Farage's Reform UK party, the largest single donation in British political history. This massive gift is intended to help the party 'get ready for government' and will be paid out in monthly installments of £1 million until the next general election, due by mid-2029. Delo, co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX, made the announcement in a Daily Telegraph article.
The donation smashes the previous record for a single donation from a living person to a U.K. political party, set last year by crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne who gave Reform £9 million (C$16,871,526). Delo's gift comes amidst multiple funding controversies and police investigations into allegations that Reform accepted illegal donations.
Farage has consistently denied any wrongdoing and told The Telegraph he was 'honoured and humbled' by Delo's confidence in the party. However, critics may question whether this massive influx of funds is a genuine attempt to level the playing field or simply an attempt to buy influence.
