Crypto Billionaires Fuel Concerns with $97 Million Donation to Reform UK

Share

The anti-immigration party Reform UK has received a massive donation of $97 million from two cryptocurrency billionaires, fueling concerns about money in British politics.

Billionaire Ben Delo, co-founder of BitMEX, gave £36 million ($48 million) to the party, and crypto investor Christopher Harborne announced he was matching the donation with another £36 million.

The twin donations equal more than the combined amount received by all UK political parties in 2025, according to data from the Electoral Commission. The Liberal Democrats have called on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to cap donations and protect British democracy, warning that unlimited donations from billionaire businessmen risk corrupting elections.
