Crypto Billionaires Fuel Farage's Reform UK with £72 Million Donations
Two cryptocurrency billionaires have made significant donations to Nigel Farage's Reform UK party. Ben Delo, co-founder of BitMEX, and Christopher Harborne, a crypto investor, each donated £36 million to the party. This combined total makes it one of the largest political funding boosts in British history, according to Reuters.
The money will help Reform UK expand its campaign operation and compete with larger established parties ahead of the next general election, expected by 2029. Farage said he was 'humbled' by the donations, stating that both men believe his party is the only one capable of winning the next election.
However, the donations have also sparked concerns about foreign interference in British politics. A UK-commissioned report recently recommended halting political crypto donations due to risks of foreign influence. In response, Harborne stated that he expected nothing in return for his donation, adding 'no peerage, no policy change', just a party ready for government.
