Crypto Billionaires Fuel Reform UK with £72m Donations
Reform UK has received two massive donations from cryptocurrency billionaires Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo, totaling £72 million. According to Reform, neither donor will receive a knighthood, peerage, or government contract if the party comes into power.
The donations are the largest in British political history, equivalent to three-quarters of the money spent at the 2024 general election by all parties combined.
The donors claim their gifts are philanthropic and meant to help the party prepare for government. Reform leader Nigel Farage said the funds will be used to create a 'best research and policy department British politics has ever seen' and recruit top talent.
However, critics argue that the donations raise concerns about the influence of wealthy donors on politics. Labour MP Stella Creasy has called for a cap on political donations, saying it cannot come too soon to protect British democracy.
