Crypto Billionaires Fuel Reform UK's Election Hopes
Reform UK has received its second £36 million donation in two days from a cryptocurrency billionaire. Thai-based businessman Christopher Harborne, who is already the party's biggest donor after giving £9 million last August, said he was inspired by Ben Delo's record-breaking donation to match it.
Harborne wrote in the Daily Telegraph that his donation was 'a philanthropic gift to our country' intended to help Reform prepare for government. He believes a 'profitable and dynamic economy' is essential for addressing the UK's existential threats, including nuclear war, AI, and climate change.
The twin donations come as MPs backed measures to cap overseas donations at £100,000 and suspend funding through cryptocurrency. However, the draft legislation still needs to be passed by the House of Lords before it becomes law.
