Crypto Billionaires Fuel Reform UK's Fundraising Frenzy
Thai-based cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne has donated £36 million to Reform UK, matching a similar donation made by fellow billionaire Ben Delo. This brings Harborne's total donations to the party to over £45 million, cementing his position as Reform's largest donor.
In an article published in the Daily Telegraph, Harborne explained that he was motivated by 'a competitive spirit' to match Delo's donation. He described the £36 million gift as a 'philanthropic gift to our country', intended to help Reform prepare for government.
The twin donations come after a summer of scrutiny over Reform UK's finances, including allegations of breaching rules on political donations and a criminal investigation into these claims. The party denies any wrongdoing and has vowed to co-operate with the probe.
