Crypto Billionaire's Home Targeted by Protesters Over Surveillance Tech Support
A group of demonstrators gathered outside the San Francisco home of Chris Larsen, CEO of Ripple and cryptocurrency billionaire, to protest his support for surveillance technology. The protesters, from the Sunrise Movement, a youth climate group, argued that public safety resources should be directed elsewhere.
The demonstration was part of a national week of action against automated license plate readers, calling for cities to cancel contracts with Flock Safety and remove surveillance cameras. According to Luc Bouchard, an organizer with Sunrise Movement Bay Area, 'There's not much evidence that flock cameras significantly impact crime rates.'
Larsen had given a $9.4 million philanthropic grant to the city so they could procure additional surveillance technology.
