Crypto Cards Bring Blockchain Payments to the Masses
Crypto cards, also known as crypto credit cards or cryptocurrency debit cards, are financial instruments that allow users to spend their cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum on everyday purchases. Unlike traditional credit cards, which use fiat currencies, these cards use blockchain technology to facilitate transactions.
Users can link their cryptocurrency wallets to the card and fund it with digital assets. The card then converts the cryptocurrency into the local currency of the merchant's country, allowing users to make payments in a more familiar denomination. This process is typically handled by a third-party service provider, which takes care of the exchange rate and any applicable fees.
Some popular crypto cards include Crypto.com, Binance Card, and BitPay Card. These services often come with various features, such as rewards programs, cashback incentives, or even travel insurance. However, users should be aware that some crypto cards may have high fees, especially when converting cryptocurrencies back to fiat.
For instance, the Binance Card reportedly charges a 0.5% transaction fee for purchases made in EUR and USD, while the Crypto.com card has a flat 1% fee for transactions above $50. BitPay Card, on the other hand, charges a competitive 1.5% fee for all transactions.
