Crypto Chipping Away at Gold's Dominance in India
In India, gold has long been a deeply ingrained investment choice for households. However, data from CoinDCX co-founder Sumit Gupta suggests that crypto ownership is rapidly gaining ground.
About 700 million Indian adults (75%) own gold, while around 97.5 million (10.2%) hold crypto. The gap between the two assets remains significant, but it's a marked shift in just a decade.
The rise of crypto adoption can be attributed to various factors, including widespread smartphone usage, low-cost mobile data, and the ease of use of local exchange applications. The Supreme Court's 2020 decision to lift RBI banking restrictions also played a crucial role.
