Crypto Clarity Bill Remains Alive Despite Delay
Despite a recent delay, Justin Slaughter, Paradigm's vice president of regulatory affairs and former senior adviser at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), remains optimistic about the Crypto Clarity Act.
The bill was initially expected to receive a procedural vote in the Senate before lawmakers departed for recess, but negotiations stalled, and the vote has been pushed until September.
Slaughter notes that the delay makes it more challenging for the bill's passage but is not fatal. He believes there is still hope for its consideration during the post-election lame-duck session, although this would require significant Democratic losses in the upcoming midterm elections.
The former SEC adviser attributes the delay to a lack of unanimous consent agreements and opposition from at least ten senators due to persistent disagreements over the bill's content. Additionally, recent criticism from elite media outlets and last-minute opposition from Republican senators have contributed to the delay.
