Crypto Clarity Bill Stalls, but Former SEC Adviser Sees a Way Forward

Share

A recent delay in the US Senate's consideration of the Crypto Clarity Act has raised concerns about its passage, but Justin Slaughter, Paradigm's vice president of regulatory affairs and a former senior adviser at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), remains confident that it is not dead yet.

The bill was initially expected to be voted on before lawmakers departed for the August recess, but Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed that the vote would instead be pushed to September after negotiations stalled.

Slaughter pointed out that the bill now faces a narrow three-week window during election season, which could make it challenging to pass. However, he also mentioned that there is still hope for passage during the post-election lame-duck session, provided that the Democrats suffer substantial losses in the upcoming midterm elections.

The delay can be attributed to various factors, including last-minute opposition from Republican senators and criticism from conservative opinion leaders who voice doubts about crypto. Slaughter emphasized that policy in Washington is still influenced by elite media, which has yet to fully understand the benefits of cryptocurrency.
