Crypto Council Releases Scathing Defense of CLARITY Act Against Critics
The Crypto Council for Innovation has released a 'Myth vs. Fact' document to defend the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act against criticism from lawmakers and industry experts.
The legislation aims to regulate digital assets, strengthen consumer protections, and expand anti-money laundering measures. The CCI argues that the bill would establish a comprehensive digital asset law enforcement framework with $150 million allocated to FinCEN, while also preserving existing securities laws and investor protections.
Critical of the claim that the CLARITY Act is weak on illicit finance and national security, the CCI points out that the legislation would expand anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CFT) requirements across the industry. It would also direct the Treasury Department to clarify Bank Secrecy Act and sanctions obligations.
The document rejects the argument that cryptocurrency is primarily used for criminal activity, stating that blockchain transactions are publicly traceable and that the legislation would strengthen federal tools to investigate illicit finance.
