Crypto Defies Chip Rout as Solana Climbs Amid Asian Equity Tumble
Crypto markets defied a global selloff in semiconductor stocks on Wednesday, with Bitcoin and major altcoins holding their ground despite heavy losses across chip-related equities.
Solana led the majors with a 2% jump to nearly $77, while ether climbed 1% to just above $1,900. The resilience in crypto contrasted with sharp declines in Asian equity benchmarks, including the Kospi index which fell over 6%, and the MSCI Asia Pacific index which dropped 2%.
Mizuho analyst Daniel O'Regan attributed the semiconductor selloff to portfolio repositioning rather than any fundamental reassessment of the artificial intelligence investment thesis. He noted that limited summer trading volume likely amplified price movements beyond what underlying fundamentals would justify.
