Crypto Derivatives Market Sees $295M in Liquidations as Shorts Get Crushed
The cryptocurrency derivatives market experienced significant turmoil over the past 24 hours, with estimated liquidations across major perpetual futures reaching approximately $295 million.
Data from CryptoRank shows that short sellers bore the brunt of the losses, as prices moved against their positions. Bitcoin (BTC) saw the largest number of liquidations at $130.72 million, with 71.77% being shorts. Ethereum (ETH) followed closely with $127.17 million liquidated, with 61.68% being shorts.
The predominance of short liquidations suggests that many traders anticipated further downside but were caught off guard by upward price movements. This highlights the risks associated with leveraged trading and the importance of risk management in the crypto market.
