Crypto Exchange Acquisitions Carry Hidden Security Risks, CZ Warns
Crypto exchange acquisitions may not be as straightforward as they seem. According to Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, buying smaller trading platforms can expose buyers to hidden security risks.
Zhao warned that an acquisition does not only transfer customers and trading activity, but also legacy vulnerabilities, outdated infrastructure, and security weaknesses that remain undiscovered until after a deal closes.
He noted that purchasing a smaller centralized exchange differs from acquiring many other businesses because security risks may remain hidden for years. Those issues may only become visible after ownership changes, increasing the risk of a future security breach.
