Crypto Exchange Deposits Fail Due to EU Regulation Change

The Euro Deposit to a Crypto Exchange Rejected: Why the Transfer Fails and What You Can Do

A euro transfer to an account at a crypto exchange looked like any other payment for years. However, since October 9, 2025, the very same transfer runs through an additional checkpoint.

The trigger sits neither with the exchange nor with your own bank. It sits in an EU regulation that has rebuilt euro payments. The regulation requires verification of payee, which checks if the name on the account matches the IBAN provided for the payment to be executed.

Trading venues as a rule hold client money separately from their own assets. The account you transfer to often runs in the name of a settlement company, of a payment service provider working in the background, or of a partner bank in another member state. This creates a discrepancy in the name check.
