Crypto Exchanges Dominate $250 Billion Equity Perpetual Contract Market
The line between traditional stock trading and cryptocurrency exchanges is blurring rapidly. Trading volume for equity perpetual contracts on crypto platforms has skyrocketed to $250 billion as of August 2026, a 17-fold increase from just four months earlier in April.
Binance dominates the market with an impressive 76% share, while Gate.io has emerged as the fastest-growing challenger, experiencing a whopping 308% month-over-month surge in volume.
Equity perpetual contracts allow traders to gain leveraged exposure to traditional stocks and indices without actually owning the underlying assets. Unlike traditional futures, they never expire, meaning no rolling contracts or settlement dates are required.
The product lineup on crypto exchanges reads like a retail investor's watchlist, with popular tickers including MSTR, NVDA, and TSLA. These instruments operate 24/7, 365 days a year, in contrast to traditional stock markets that follow fixed schedules.
