Crypto Exchanges Dominate Traditional Asset Trading with $1.45 Trillion Volume
The crypto exchange industry is rapidly expanding into traditional asset classes, transforming the way users interact with and trade these assets. In just over a year and a half, the size of actively traded Crypto TradFi assets has grown from $1.41 billion to $6.59 billion, representing a significant expansion of 366.7%. This growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for exposure to traditional financial assets, particularly in precious metals and US stocks.
According to data from CoinGecko's report, 'How Crypto Exchanges Are Reshaping Traditional Asset Trading in 2026', trading volume in Crypto TradFi reached a staggering $1.45 trillion in the first half of 2026 alone, surpassing the full-year volume in 2025 by tenfold. Open interest in Crypto TradFi perpetual swaps grew from $60 million to $4.67 billion between January 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, representing a 77-fold increase.
The growth of the Crypto TradFi market has not been uniform across centralized exchanges, with Binance rising from $39.60 billion in January 2026 to $231.49 billion in June, accounting for over half of the total trading volume among the six exchanges that month. This intense competition is driven by the desire to become the preferred one-stop multi-asset trading gateway for global users.
The industry landscape is diverging as exchange platforms expand their product offerings and compete with each other to achieve differentiated positioning in the market. The user survey conducted by MEXC revealed a significant scale of user migration from the demand side, highlighting the importance of meeting evolving user needs in this rapidly changing space.
