Crypto Exchanges Tokenize Traditional Assets Amid Intense Competition
Crypto exchanges are expanding their offerings beyond digital assets to include tokenized stocks, commodities, and precious metals in an effort to attract and retain users amidst intense competition from traditional brokerages and decentralized exchanges.
A report by CoinGecko found that the market capitalization of tokenized traditional assets grew nearly fivefold over 18 months to $6.6 billion in June 2026, with precious metals driving early gains before expanding into US equities.
Tokenized US stock perpetual futures have overtaken precious metals in both trading volume and open interest, driven by investor interest in semiconductor stocks and anticipated initial public offerings, the report said.
