Crypto Farms Consume 6% of Georgia's Electricity, Claims Opposition Politician

Opposition politician Roman Gotsiridze claims that crypto-mining enterprises in Georgia are draining the country's energy resources. According to him, these farms consume around 6% of Georgia's generated electricity, which is roughly equivalent to 1 billion kilowatt-hours, more than the annual electricity consumption of Batumi.

Gotsiridze argues that crypto-mining operations in the country exist solely due to preferential tax and energy incentives, making them 'vampires sucking the resources of the energy sector and the state budget.'

He also points out that these farms operate around the clock, placing a constant strain on the power grid and leading to frequent accidents and outages. Gotsiridze believes that cryptocurrency mining in free industrial zones should be banned immediately.
