Crypto Firms Demand Early Access to AI Models for Security Research

More than three dozen Bitcoin and crypto companies have asked leading AI labs to provide open-source security researchers early access to their most capable models. The signatories, including Coinbase, Block, BitGo, and others, argue that defenders are working with weaker tools than attackers.

The letter, organized by the Bitcoin Policy Institute, states that Bitcoin Core developers cannot get into the programs run for trusted security partners. When they turn to publicly available models, safety filters block both malicious code and security reviews.

Attackers face no such constraints, the signatories claim, and can see new offensive capabilities months before others. Those capabilities spread through public models, stolen access, or purpose-built hacking tools.
