Crypto Firms Left Behind as AI-Driven Cybersecurity Gaps Grow
Crypto security teams are facing an imbalance due to restricted access to advanced AI models. These 'frontier' tools, developed by companies like Anthropic and OpenAI, are not being made widely available to crypto firms. While some companies have managed to gain early access, others are still waiting.
Binance's chief security officer Jimmy Su told Cointelegraph that the exchange has been trying to secure access to these models but has not obtained the most advanced one. Coinbase, on the other hand, has reportedly secured access to Anthropic's restricted Mythos model.
Crypto executives argue that restricting access to these advanced models is necessary at first, but maintaining restrictions could become harder to justify as capabilities converge with public releases. They also pointed out that this uneven access may widen the security gap between defenders and attackers, particularly as AI-assisted exploit workflows reportedly speed up.
