Crypto Firms Pledge $10M to Upgrade West Texas Town's Water System
Cipher Digital (NASDAQ: CIFR), Fluidstack, and Anthropic have committed $10 million to repair and expand Colorado City's water system in West Texas. The funding will support additional water storage, replacement of aging valves, and other projects chosen by city officials.
A new nonprofit, the Colorado City Water Infrastructure Foundation, will manage the funds alongside local leaders. This pledge follows a recent power outage caused by July thunderstorms that damaged a city well-pump station.
Barber Lake, a data center operated by Cipher Digital, draws its water from an on-site supply rather than the municipal system. The additional capacity funded by this initiative will benefit the entire town, not just the data center.
The partnership involves a 10-year lease between Cipher and Fluidstack for 168 megawatts of power at Barber Lake, with $3 billion in contracted revenue. Anthropic has invested in Fluidstack's computing infrastructure, starting with data centers in Texas and New York.
