Crypto Firms Struggle for Access to Exclusive AI Models Amid Rising Threats
Crypto companies are struggling to gain access to cutting-edge AI models that could help protect them from sophisticated attacks. Despite their efforts, only a select few have managed to secure access to powerful models like Anthropic's Mythos.
Coinbase was among the lucky ones, securing access to the restricted model in June, while Zcash used it to audit its protocol at the request of Shielded Labs. However, other major players like Binance and Fireblocks are still waiting in line.
Binance's chief security officer Jimmy Su acknowledged that his company has been trying to gain access but has yet to succeed. 'That's one advanced frontier model that hasn't been made available to crypto just yet,' he said.
The uneven access to these powerful models creates a new security divide in the industry, where exploits can put billions of dollars at risk. While developers like Anthropic and OpenAI restrict their most cyber-capable models from public use, concerns are growing that open-source alternatives will leave crypto firms vulnerable to AI-assisted attacks.
