Crypto-Friendly States Gain Ground on Traditional Tech Hubs
The Draper Innovation Index (DII) has released its latest update for March 2026, highlighting which US states are exceling in attracting entrepreneurs, investment, and emerging technologies.
According to the DII, Texas has taken fourth place in the ranking, surpassing Wyoming thanks to significant growth in venture capital investment, cryptocurrency and blockchain-related funding, and new business creation.
Oklahoma also saw a notable gain, rising to 15th place after strong growth in startup formation and crypto-related venture investment.
On the other hand, traditional tech hubs California and New York are losing momentum, with both states dropping significantly in the rankings. California fell to 31st place while New York dropped to 49th due to weaker new business formation despite their large economies and established innovation ecosystems.
