Crypto Fueling US Economic Growth with $55 Billion Boost
The US economy is receiving a significant boost from the crypto industry, which is generating $55 billion in total economic output this year. According to a report by the National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA), the sector is also sustaining 232,000 positions nationwide, including 34,000 direct roles at crypto companies. This number surpasses employment figures in several benchmark industries, such as coffee and tea manufacturing, aerospace and robotics, cement manufacturing, and tobacco manufacturing.
The average annual pay for these direct positions is $133,000, which is more than twice the national median wage of $64,000. The NCA's analysis relies on input-output modeling from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and Bureau of Labor Statistics data. This shows that crypto's economic contribution impacts a wide array of industries across the country.
The largest share of crypto investments goes towards securities and commodity contracts at $9.7 billion, followed by housing and real estate at $4.8 billion. The employment concentrations are mainly in California, New York, Texas, Washington, and North Carolina, with notable increases in Colorado and North Dakota tied to favorable regulations and energy resources.
Additionally, the report highlights that 67 million Americans hold crypto assets, making the US second globally in adoption rates. Furthermore, 60% of Fortune 500 firms pursue related blockchain projects, demonstrating the growing influence of the crypto industry on traditional business.
