Crypto Funding Dries Up as Investors Seek Safer Bets

Share

The cryptocurrency industry saw a significant decline in fundraising activity in August, with total capital raised falling by 74% to $596 million. This sharp reversal comes after July's record-breaking $2.312 billion, which had fueled investor enthusiasm.

Despite the overall decline, infrastructure projects continued to dominate, attracting $311 million in funding. Centralized finance (CeFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) projects received $199 million and $73.1 million respectively.

The data suggests a shift towards more foundational blockchain technology, even as investment contracts overall decreased. The number of deals also dropped to 49, with no single deal dominating the landscape like mega-rounds had in July.
