Crypto Funding Plummets 74% to $596M Amid Investor Caution
Crypto funding took a significant hit in August, plummeting by 74% to $596 million, according to data from RootData. This sharp decline marks a reversal from July's high of $2.312 billion, signaling a cooling in investor enthusiasm after a period of relative activity.
The majority of this funding went towards infrastructure projects, which attracted $311 million, followed by centralized finance (CeFi) with $199 million and decentralized finance (DeFi) with $73.1 million. This indicates a continued preference for foundational blockchain technology over application-level projects.
The 49 deals recorded in August represent a significant drop in both deal count and average deal size compared to the previous month. While July saw mega-rounds that inflated the total, August's funding was distributed more evenly, with no single deal dominating the landscape.
