Crypto Hacking Incidents Reach Record High
The first half of 2026 saw a surge in crypto hacking incidents, with over $1 billion stolen, according to Blockaid's security report. This marks the highest number of hacking incidents in a six-month period, with 212 reported cases.
The largest single attack came from KelpDAO, resulting in a loss of $292 million. Ethereum and Solana were the two networks with the heaviest losses, at approximately $332 million and $326 million respectively.
Ethereum's incidents were primarily due to code vulnerabilities, while Solana's losses increased by about $127 million compared to 2025, mainly due to key leakage involving Drift Protocol and Step Finance, associated with North Korean hacker organizations.
