Crypto Hacks Hit Record 212 Incidents in First Half of 2026
Crypto hacks reached an all-time high in the first half of 2026, with a record 212 verified exploits resulting in over $1.1 billion in losses, according to Blockaid's H1 2026 Onchain Security Report.
The report found that North Korea-linked actors were responsible for the largest losses, with two major incidents: the $292 million KelpDAO hack and the $285 million Drift Protocol drain, both of which involved operational failures rather than smart contract bugs.
Ethereum and Solana absorbed the largest losses among all networks, at roughly $332 million and $326 million respectively. Code exploits drove most Ethereum incidents, while key and signing infrastructure breaches accounted for the bulk of Solana losses.
The DPRK Cluster, a group of North Korea-linked hackers, was responsible for 55% of all first-half losses, including the KelpDAO and Drift attacks. The pace of hacks has not slowed down in the second half, with DefiLlama's hacks database listing nine exploits in the last week of July alone.
