Crypto Industry Dumps Over $200 Million into Midterm Elections
The cryptocurrency industry has made significant investments in the midterm elections, pouring close to $200 million into various campaigns. This is on top of the $170 million spent supporting congressional candidates during the last election cycle.
The sector's efforts are focused on pushing lawmakers to pass legislation that will reshape federal oversight of digital assets. Key bills include the Genius Act and the Clarity Act, which aim to create rules for dollar-backed crypto tokens called stablecoins and provide a clearer regulatory framework for the industry.
According to a report by watchdog group Public Citizen, Fairshake, a major super political action committee created to support pro-crypto candidates, has raised over $136 million this election cycle. The PAC's spending spree has directed funds towards several key congressional candidates, including Representative Barry Moore (R) and Representative Andy Barr (R), both of whom have voted in favor of crypto-friendly measures.
