Crypto Industry Spends Big on Midterm Elections, Pushes for Sweeping Legislation

Share

The crypto industry has spent close to $200 million in support of midterm elections candidates, demonstrating its significant influence in Congress. This spending is a continuation of the $170 million invested during the previous election cycle, which helped secure passage of the Genius Act creating rules for dollar-backed stablecoins.

Fairshake, a super political action committee, has been at the forefront of this effort, funneling funds through affiliate PACs to support pro-crypto candidates. The group's Republican and Democratic affiliates have each spent millions to back specific candidates, with Barry Moore (R) and Andy Barr (R) among those receiving significant support.

The crypto industry is pushing for passage of the Clarity Act, a more comprehensive bill aimed at establishing clear guidelines for digital assets. This legislation has gained traction in the Senate but faces a narrow window to pass before the August recess.
