Crypto Industry Suffers Setback, But Still Gains Ground in Congressional Campaigns
The crypto industry suffered an unusual setback in its campaign efforts this week, losing incumbent Representative Shri Thanedar in a Democratic primary in Detroit. The Fairshake political action committee spent over $2 million to support Thanedar, who co-sponsored the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and was active in other crypto legislation.
Despite this loss, the industry's roster in Congress is likely to grow. Fairshake and its affiliates have been successful in five other primaries, backing incumbents such as Bill Huizenga in Michigan and Democrats Suzan Delbene, Kim Schrier, and Marilyn Strickland in Washington.
The super PAC has also added new names in primary victories over the past months, including several candidates expected to win in November's elections. The industry is now looking ahead to the Senate vote on the Clarity Act, which could have a significant impact on crypto regulations.
