Crypto Investment Platform Scams: What to Watch Out For

Share

A crypto investment platform can appear legitimate even when it's a scam. The website may display professional-looking features, such as a portfolio, trading charts, and account history, to make it seem like a real investment opportunity.

The problem often becomes apparent when the investor tries to withdraw a larger amount. The account is suddenly frozen, or a 'tax' is required, or a liquidity payment is demanded. A verification fee appears, or the investor is told to deposit additional cryptocurrency before their existing balance can be released.

This pattern matches current FBI guidance on investment fraud, which warns that scammers use fictitious returns to encourage victims to invest more money and then introduce arbitrary taxes or fees when they try to withdraw.
