Crypto Investors Flee to AI Stocks Amid Stagnant Bitcoin Price
Investors are shifting their focus from cryptocurrency to artificial intelligence (AI), with many selling off Bitcoin and other tokens to invest in AI stocks. According to The Wall Street Journal, Switzerland-based investor Daniel Koss likened his transition to discovering fire for the first time.
Koss is not alone in this shift, as a growing number of investors and hedge funds are unloading their crypto holdings to bet on AI's potential growth. This trend has contributed to Bitcoin's stagnant price, which has been hovering around $60,000 after falling from its record high of over $126,000 in October.
Mike McGlone, senior commodity strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, told the WSJ that 'the purge is just getting started' in crypto. Ryan Ho, founder of social-trading app Legend, echoed this sentiment, stating that AI's growth potential is more attractive to everyday investors due to its real-world applications.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong defended cryptocurrency's benefits, highlighting the financial access it has unlocked through stablecoins, decentralized finance (DeFi), and tokenized stocks. However, his comments came after Coinbase reported earnings, which showed the company expanding into new areas such as subscriptions and AI-ready blockchain rails.
