Crypto Lobbying Reaches Record Levels as Industry Seeks Durable Rules

Crypto political spending has surged to record levels in the US, with $206 million spent so far this year alone. This total is more than double the amount spent by any other corporate sector.

The crypto industry's Washington agenda has shifted significantly over the past three years, from focusing on avoiding regulation through enforcement to pushing for durable rules that can withstand changes in administration.

Utkarsh Ahuja, founder of Moon Pursuit Capital, argues that the industry needs a regulatory framework that is 'credible and predictable' rather than one that can be easily altered by future administrations. This sentiment is echoed by SEC Chair Paul Atkins, who believes legislation is necessary to create rules that are 'future-proofed.'

The passage of the CLARITY Act in the House has set the stage for a crucial Senate vote on September 15th, which will determine the fate of this landmark legislation. If passed, it would establish a joint regulatory framework for digital commodities between the SEC and CFTC.
