Crypto Lobbyists Descend on Senators' Home States Ahead of Key Vote
The crypto industry and banking sector have escalated their lobbying efforts ahead of a key vote on the Clarity Act, a major cryptocurrency legislation. According to Reuters, the Senate will take a procedural vote on September 15 that could determine the fate of the bill.
Crypto companies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars campaigning for the Clarity Act, which they believe will provide legal clarity and stability for digital assets. However, Democrats and some Republicans have expressed concerns about the bill's safeguards, warning it could destabilize the banking system.
The crypto industry is taking its fight to senators' home states during the congressional summer recess, deploying op-ed pieces, letter-writing drives, and in-person events to rally grassroots support and sway lawmakers. Stand With Crypto, an advocacy group backed by Coinbase, has been hosting events in several states and facilitating meetings with lawmakers.
The industry is anxious to pass the bill this year due to polls favoring Democrats to retake the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections. Crypto companies have already spent at least $190 million on campaigning for the Clarity Act.
